"One-Tank-Trip" to the Offsets Recreational Area

In Madison County, there's a place where you can swim in the summer, zip line through the fall and scuba dive in the winter. It's known as the Off-Sets in Mine La Motte, Madison County.

"It's just an old mine that's filled up with spring water that makes a great swimming hole," said Gary Henson, owner.

It dates back to the 1600's and was once home to what some call Missouri's most important mine.

"We just keep getting busier," said Henson.

Henson spent the last 26-years turning this into a place where you can chill or catch some thrills.

We are told most visitors head to the water first.

"You can look in the bottom and see the old mining equipment and stuff like that where they just left it when it flooded so fast," said Henson.

There's also three zip lines here. You sail about 1000 feet continuously through the air over the water.

"It's amazing," said Alan Well, who's been on dozens of rides on the zip line. "If you like James Bond movies you'll like this ride. You go right over the water and the view is awesome."
