Firefighters called to large house fire in Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Cape Girardeau firefighters battled a huge house fire at 132 South Hanover Friday morning.

The blaze was called in around 3:15 a.m.  When fire crews arrived, flames were shooting out of the second floor windows.

The fire appeared to have started on or around the second floor and spread throughout that floor, according to the Cape Girardeau Fire Department.

The fire caused about $85,000 worth of damage with a small amount of fire on the first floor and damage from extensive fire on the second floor.

There is no word if anyone was injured in the fire or fighting the fire.

According to Cape Fire Department, they believe that some people did live in the home and they were in the process of moving out.

The fire investigators believe the fire was electrical and they're calling it accidental.

Mutual Aid was called in from Jackson, Scott City and East Cape County.

The investigation is ongoing.
