One Tank Trip: Destination Science Center

Where else can you see a dinosaur, your brain and perform real science experiments in the same afternoon?

It's all at the St. Louis Science Center, the focus of this week's One Tank Trip.

Cape Girardeau native Beth Bishop McClure served as our tour guide. She showed us the center's top three exhibits, among the hundreds you can visit.

First to the Science Lab, where anybody can be a scientist.

"The life science lab is one of our newest galleries," said McClure.  "The exhibits can be changed really frequently to reflect what's going on in current science world."

The most popular part of the lab are activity benches where you can perform real experiments with genuine equipment.

Through this fall you can visit 'Body Worlds and the Brain,' one of the center's traveling exhibits.

"It's amazing," said McClure. "You can actually look under your skin. It's a one of a kind anatomy lesson and its a lesson on your health. You can see what's going on beneath your skin when you're playing soccer or ice skating or playing baseball."

For the dinosaur lover, you can visit one of the center's newest renovations and play the role of a paleontologist.

"We have a whole collection of real dinosaur fossils and you can talk to volunteers to get help exploring," said McClure.

The Science Center can take you places you didn't even imagine you could go. Admission is free for the center itself. The Omnimax and traveling galleries may come with extra cost. McClure did share with us some money saving tips.

"I always like to give my secret tip that there's free parking on the Planetarium side," she said.
