Phone lines restored at Dexter Police Dept.

DEXTER, MO (KFVS) -

Phone lines have been restored to the Dexter Police Department and the Dexter Fire Department.

Dexter Fire Chief Al Banken said during remodeling and expansion construction to the police department, workers accidentally cut the telephone lines to both departments.

But Banken says it did not affect emergency response because people could still call 911 for emergency dispatch.

He says it happened about 2:30 Tuesday afternoon, but was back up and running by 3:30pm.

Banken says it's just another example to show how important it is to always be prepared as emergency response organizations.

"You plan for the future, and you plan for these emergencies, which turned out not to be an emergency, as a result of pre -planning. And that's the name of the game, pre planning," said Banken. "As far as I'm concerned as fire chief, the service of fire protection was not in jeopardy."

He did say they didn't' receive any emergency calls during that time, but still would have been able to respond if the department needed to.
