Good afternoon. Police are investigating the death of a confessed murderer in Pinckneyville. Carl Dane pleaded guilty in June 2011  to a charge of 1st degree murder in the death of Sidnee Stephens.

Police have released the name of the victim who was shot by a woman yesterday in Paducah.

Julia Bruck reports from Carbondale where SIU is stepping in to look at helping students who live at an apartment complex that needs to get up to city code.

Hiring picked up slightly in July and the unemployment rate dipped to 9.1 percent. A number of people were invited to a job fair in Sikeston today and offered jobs on the spot working with storm cleanup.

Many farmers are worried with the heat and drought conditions about their crops. Crystal Britt talks to some farmers who have lost a lot of their crops to drought. Gov. Jay Nixon has asked the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Farm Service Agency (FSA) to conduct damage assessment reports for all 114 Missouri counties

As they prepare lesson plans for fall, teachers across Missouri have an extra chore before the new school year begins: purging their Facebook friend lists to comply with a new state law that limits their contact with students on social networks.
