JACKSON, MO (KFVS) -

Congresswoman Jo Ann Emerson said the economic climate for small businesses will get better.

She also said she's not surprised to see larger companies such as Nordenia USA expanding in southeast Missouri.

Emerson toured Nordenia's current site on Route 177 on Thursday morning.

The company is expanding to Jackson's new industrial park this year, and is expected to add about 50 jobs.

She said raising the debt ceiling while cutting spending is vital for companies like Nordenia to expand.

She said not raising the debt limit would have limited companies from expanding because of higher loan interest rates.

But luckily, that's not the case, and she says projects like the Nordenia expansion should be a boon for the local economy.

"This is a great thing," Emerson said. "Adding jobs is a great sign.  We have the best workforce in southeast Missouri, very hardworking people, and more jobs is what we need."
