Drowsy driving causes early morning crash

SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) - Police say drowsy driving landed a Bernie man in the hospital.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 25-year-old Heath Williams of Bernie was traveling northbound on Route BB just north of Sikeston around 5:45 a.m. Sunday when he fell asleep at the wheel.

Troopers say Williams vehicle drove off the left side of the roadway, struck a mailbox and slammed into a tree.

Williams was wearing his seatbelt, but sustained moderate injuries in the crash.

He was taken by ambulance to Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston for treatment. No word on his condition.
