GALENA, Ill. (AP) - Rescue crews in western Illinois have recovered the body of a 70-year-old woman who apparently drowned after the car she was in was swept away by floodwaters.
The Jo Daviess County sheriff's office says the body of Geneevera Johnson was found at about 9:45 a.m. Saturday in rural Galena.
The car's driver, 86-year-old Kenneth Schubert, says he and Johnson were driving alongside Furnace creek Wednesday when his vehicle was overcome by the flood. Both were thrown from the vehicle.
Schubert pulled himself to safety and spent 36 hours trapped in a grassy area until being rescued Friday morning. He's reportedly in good condition after being taken to an area hospital.
Crews had been searching for Johnson since Friday.
The sheriff's office says the incident is under investigation.
