LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - There was some big news Wednesday for the state of Kentucky. Governor Steve Beshear announced that the state closed out the 2011 Fiscal Year with close to a $157 million general fund surplus.
More than 75 percent of that surplus will be deposited into the state's rainy day fund.
The remainder of the surplus, about $35 million, will be used to pay government expenses. That includes recovery from our spring storms and flooding.
