Baseball dreams for Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Could the dream of minor league baseball come true for Cape Girardeau?

City leaders say it's on the wish list. They are shopping franchises and locations.

It's something business owners say they are excited about.

"I think that would be great, especially with the following we have for sports in this community," said Kevin Schearf of the River City Antique Mall. "Everybody that comes in the store is talking about the casino and that would just be a bonus."

Others who visit the community say minor league baseball would be a bonus.

"It would make a perfect weekend," said John Conroy.

City leaders aren't giving away a lot of details at this time, but they compare progress to that of where casino plans stood just over a year ago.

With that dream, now in the process of coming true people in town feel Cape Girardeau could finally get a minor league baseball team, an idea first put on the table in 2007.

"I think we'd probably go," said Lisa Chapman.
