MADISON COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - Not far from Fredericktown, Silver Mines is a hidden gem located along the St. Francis River.
"It's my favorite place," said Brooke Balsman.
"My favorite part is swimming in the water," said Paige Balsman.
To the young girls, it's hard to beat splashing in the water, but campground managers say Silver Mines has a lot to offer.
"It's a perfect spot for families," said Campground Manger, Jim Rehkop. "There's so much to do."
The site is a historic mining operation dating back to 1877. The dam was build in 1897. Mining ceased in 1946 leaving behind a picture perfect setting for all kinds of fun.
"There's water, there's hiking trails, there's fishing," said Doris Rehkop. "We work very hard to keep the camp sites clean. We have running water and nice bathrooms."
