Caruthersville counselor to be sentenced for Medicaid fraud

CARUTHERSVILLE, MO (KFVS) - A Caruthersville counselor will be sentenced in the fall for Medicaid fraud.

Kristi Smith pleaded guilty to charging Medicaid for children's counseling services she didn't perform; even going so far as to present forged signature to support her fraudulent claims.

Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster said his Medicaid Fraud Control Unit investigated the case and found that between November 2009 and September 2010, Smith billed the state for more than $3,264 in false claims.

The Missouri Attorney General's office says Smith will be sentenced on September 20.
