CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Missouri Lt. Governor Peter Kinder met with veterans and staff at the Cape Girardeau Veterans Home on Monday amid budget concerns.
Kinder addressed a swirling rumor that the home could close due to state budget cuts.
However, Kinder said it's just a rumor, and there are no plans to close any of the state's seven veterans homes.
He said this despite Missouri's revenue dropping 20 percent since 2008.
Kinder said revenue levels will not be back at 2008 levels until 2014.
"That's the biggest issue facing our veterans," Kinder said. "But there will be no closures or staff reductions at our veterans homes if I have anything to say about it."
Kinder also said he hopes substantial raises can be given to staff members after they've gone three years without raises.
