CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Clay Waller's attorney is defending his client saying Mr. Waller had nothing to do with the disappearance of his estranged wife Jacque Waller.

"What Clay would say is he misses his wife and he is very hurt and sorry over her disappearance," said Reynolds.

"What Clay would say is he misses his wife and he is very hurt and sorry over her disappearance," said Reynolds. "He has sympathy for the Rawson family, but he hopes she's found alive and hopes she's okay. He doesn't know what happened to her."

The mother of three disappeared more than six weeks ago.

"He had nothing to do with her disappearance, and we have substantial evidence to support that claim," said Scott Reynolds. "Through the media he has already been tried and convicted. It's very stressful to him. I talk to him everyday. There have been death threats against him on the Internet and people want to do a public hanging. Someone painted killer on the side of his truck, that's why he had to paint the truck. It's hard for him to get a job. There is no evidence a crime has been committed much less that he had anything to do with it."

Clay Waller has not been charged with any crime but remains a person of interest in this case.

Police say Waller is now checking in regularly with officers.

Meanwhile, search efforts for Jacque Waller continue.

A large search party this weekend is expected to be the biggest to date.
