YourTurn - 7/15/11

Watch for YourTurn normally scheduled to air at the end of Heartland News at Noon on Mondays and Fridays, at the end of Heartland News at 10:00 on Saturday nights, and following The Breakfast Show on Sunday mornings.

Larry Baggott from Hurst, Illinois:
"(Regarding Mike Smythe's ViewPoint on cigarette package pictures) I am a long term smoker in the medical field and am aware of the hazards of smoking. Smokers know the effects of the habit but until we are ready to quit we won't. No amount of horrid pictures or any other kind of propaganda will sway us until we are ready. I started when a pack was 35 cents. Today I spend $6.00 on a pack. If that won't get us to stop nothing will."
Heartland viewer Dale Narshner:
"…more people are killed by drunk drivers than by smoking and you don't have to smoke or be around anyone who does to get lung cancer. You can't legislate morality. I smoke and have cigarette cases so it is not going to bother me. I will take my cigarettes out and put them in one of the (cases). Banning smoking is unconstitutional and in direct violation of a non-discrimination act."

Don and Kathy Cyr from Christopher, Illinois:
"Social Security and Medicare have been called ‘entitlements.' I have paid into Social Security since 1957 and Medicare since it started in 1965. That is my money, not something that is given to me… (news media) should not refer to Social Security and Medicare as entitlements."
