Beshear to talk about Medicaid

Gov. Steve Beshear has scheduled a news

conference for Thursday to give an update on his administration's

efforts to privatize some Medicaid services.

The Beshear administration has been trying to hammer out

contracts with managed-care organizations to cuts costs. The

Democratic governor had pledged earlier this year to have the

contracts in place by July 1.

Beshear said last week that officials in the Kentucky Cabinet

for Health and Family Services were in the final stages of

reviewing potential contracts, which are considered key to filling

a $166 million deficit in the Medicaid budget.

The news conference is set for 11 a.m. EDT in the Capitol.

Health and Family Services Secretary Janie Miller also is expected

to attend.
