JACKSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -Whether you're on the land or the water chances are you're going to be seeing a lot of police presence on this 4th of July weekend.

"The main thing we're looking for is operator safety, and no careless boaters," said Officer Kris Taylor with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

"We're also making sure everyone has all their safety equipment while they're out on the water."

OnSaturday it didn't take the officers long to find a safety violation on a boat at Kinkaid Lake.

"We're also wanting to make sure everyone is observing the navigational directions on the water, they know where they're supposed to be, and where to go," said Officer Taylor.

The IDNR officers are teaming up with the Jackson County Sheriff's Office to patrol the lake this holiday weekend.

"We have a large number of boats out here this weekend. And we're trying to do our best to make sure everyone is safe and having a good time."
