ALEXANDER COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

Flood waters are still impacting East Cape Girardeau, Illinois and other communities in Alexander County.

Bader Lane in East Cape was under water. Recently the county highway department built it up so residents could get in and out by vehicle.

According to emergency management, flooding in this area has been a fight since mid-April.

Emergency management says the water problem won't likely go away any time soon.

The Mississippi River is expected to continue rising in coming days, and more rain could be problematic for Alexander County residents.

There was a fear that the pumps that have been running could be shut off due to lack of funding.

According to Emergency Management Director Marty Nicholson, FEMA has stepped in to reimburse fuel expenses in order to continue powering the pumps.
