YourTurn - 7/1/11

Watch for YourTurn normally scheduled to air at the end of Heartland News at Noon on Mondays and Fridays, at the end of Heartland News at 10:00 on Saturday nights, and following The Breakfast Show on Sunday mornings.

Mike Peters from Charleston, Missouri:
"…uniformed people seem to relish the fact that many farmers lost decades of work in the floodway…this was a useless experiment by the (Army Corps of Engineers)…farmers work year round to plant, care for, and harvest their crops spending long hours in the fields. It is just not the farmers in the floodway who are suffering, but (people) all over the Bootheel. Farmers employ thousands of people in related industries…everyone will feel the economic impact of this flood no matter where they are employed because most farmers mortgage all of their assets to fund their crops…not knowing whether they will get enough (money) to pay out. Farmers are the first to respond when someone needs help…many are now working to help people displaced by the flood. Our farmers earn any profits they might make and we should be proud of their contributions to our area."

Melanie Dow from Cape Girardeau:
"(Regarding Mike Smythe's ViewPoint on boys and nail polish) this should not be an issue. It is a choice. I am a mother and why does that individual have to identify with gender at all? Today's society needs to get away from assigned gender roles and gender identity. A person is a person. There are more important things to worry about that what color nail polish a ‘boy' wears."
