SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) - The City of Sikeston held a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Public Safety facility on Monday, June 27 at 8 a.m.
The new building will be located on the corner of South Kingshighway and Trotter. The site is just south of the new Board of Municipal Utilities building.
The new DPS building will replace the current headquarters on North New Madrid Street. Built in 1939, that building at one time served as the city post office. DPS moved into the building in 1972.
In 1978, the city chose to adapt a "Public Safety" concept, merging the Police and Fire Department into one entity, and is still used today.
