Snake causes power outage in southern Illinois

BENTON, IL (KFVS) -

It appears a snake is to blame for huge power outage in southern Illinois overnight.

According to Ameren Illinois, nearly 8,000 customers in Franklin County lost power at 1:24 Monday morning.

There were also outages reported in Perry and Jefferson counties as well.

An Ameren official says a snake tripped some circuit breakers at a substation.  Power was restored around 3:31.
