Two men arrested for alleged farm equipment theft

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -

Two Brookport, Illinois men are in trouble with the law after police say they were caught with stolen farm equipment.

Police say the Massac County Sheriff's Department had been investigating a theft of some farm equipment - stolen out of a field on Unionville Road from earlier this week.

Friday afternoon a Brookport Police officer saw a pick-up truck hauling parts of a farm disc and a roller heading across the Brookport Bridge into Kentucky.

Massac and McCracken County deputies were called in to help with the traffic stop.

The driver of the pick-up, Timothy Cooper and his passenger Charles Anderson, both of Brookport were arrested.

The owner of the stolen farm equipment was contacted and police say he was able to identify the items in the pick-up truck as his property.

Officers say additional items found in the truck indicated the men had been selling a lot of scrap metal over the past week.

Both men are now in the McCracken County Jail on the following charges:

Timothy Cooper:

  • No/Expired Registration Plate
  • Failure of Owner to Maintain Required Insurance
  • Receiving Stolen Property Over $500.00 (Class D Felony)

Charles Anderson:

  • Receiving Stolen Property Over $500.00 (Class D Felony)
