Paducah woman charged in merchandise return scheme

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - A Paducah woman has been charged in a merchandise return scheme at a local department store.

Brenda A. Wright, 68, of Paducah was arrested on a charge of theft by deception over $500.

According to Sgt. Brian Laird with the Paducah Police Department, Kohl's loss prevention reported a Wright had been making fraudulent returns. Laird says Wright had been buying expensive items from the store and returning inexpensive items from other stores.

Officers say loss prevention told them Wright accomplished the theft by removing Kohl's brand tags from clothes, and sewed the tags onto used clothing from other stores.

Kohl's officials say their estimated loss is $2,000.

Wright admitted to making fraudulent returns Thursday, June 23 to detectives. According to police, she admitted having a "vendetta" against Kohl's because of problems returning merchandise  in the past.

Wright was lodged at the McCracken County Jail.
