Afternoon update: 100 new jobs, Son of police chief in trouble

Good afternoon.  One of Cape Girardeau's biggest employers announced today they are adding 100 new jobs and opening up their daycare to the public.

East Prairie Police arrested a 27-year-old man accused of stabbing another man Monday night.  The man is also the son of the East Prairie Police Chief.

FEMA has set up several disaster recovery centers in Cape Girardeau, Poplar Bluff, and Cairo to help residents find out what help is available to them.

The tower at Williamson County Sheriff's Department was struck by lightning this morning.  They are running emergency calls on a backup system.

A 67-year-old Cape Girardeau man died after crashing on a western Colorado mountain pass in the Ride the Rockies bicycle tour.

Holly Brantley talks with the family of Cheryl Ann Scherer.  The 19-year-old went missing from a Scott City gas station in 32 years ago.

Crews in Scott County have their hands full battling a house fire northwest of Oran this afternoon.  The fire started in the kitchen of the home and firefighters thought they had the fire under control but because of high winds the fire has spread to the other side of the home.

A Mt. Vernon was convicted and sentenced to 18 years in prison for distributing crack cocaine.

    A fundraiser is in effect in Southern Illinois between Shawnee Tactical Solutions and the Stop the Bleeding Coalition to put specialized trauma kits in the hands of police departments.

    In an effort to save more lives in active shooter situation and beyond, Shawnee Tactical Solutions and the Stop the Bleeding Coalition are partnering up to put special trauma kits in the hands of police officers.
