MARION, IL (KFVS) -

The Williamson County Sheriff's Department was struck by lightning Tuesday morning.

Williamson County Sheriff's Deputy Robert Owsley says the sheriff's department tower antenna was struck by lightning around 9:20 a.m.  It's located at 200 W. Jefferson St.

A fiberglass antenna on top of the 160 to 200 foot tower was blown into pieces.  This blew out some of their computer and radio equipment.

All emergency communications are working on a backup system.  Calls are being rerouted through Herrin.

Crews are working to get everything back up and running.
