MAYFIELD, KY (KFVS) - Emergency officials in Mayfield evacuated several businesses after someone brought a mortar round to the city hall.
Mayfield Mayor Teresa Cantrell says the mortar round was bought at the weekly trade day held on the fairgrounds.
She says two people bought the mortar round from a trader from Fulton, Kentucky.
Cantrell says they took it to a local gun shop that advised them to have police look at it to see if it was a live round. So, they took it to city hall and left it in the car while they talked to police.
Police called the Paducah Bomb Squad to investigate.
In the meantime, at least six businesses were evacuated in the area as a precaution.
After two and a half hours, the bomb squad secured the mortar round and took it to a remote location.
Cantrell says the two people do not face any charges, but the city may be revisiting it's policies at the trade day.
