WILLIAMSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - Police say a 21-year-old woman drowned in a pond behind a vacant house in Williamson County early Saturday evening.
According to the Williamson County Sheriff's Office, deputies were dispatched Saturday to a pond behind Ralph St. in Cambria after a 911 call reporting a possible drowning at 6:21 p.m.
Police say around 6:28 p.m. deputies arrived and learned that Ashtyn Ash, 21, of Herrin had been under water for 5 minutes.
A Carterville officer was the first to arrive and jumped into the pond to try to find her.
Afterwards, Carterville Fire and Rescue arrived and launched a boat. They found Ashtyn underwater a short time later and started CPR. Ashtyn was then taken to a Carbondale hospital and later pronounced deceased, police said.
Police say several people were swimming at the time of the incident, and the residence where the pond is located is vacant. However, one of the swimmers had permission to be on the property.
No foul play is suspected, police said.
The Williamson Co. Sheriff's deputies were assisted by Cambria and Carterville Police Departments.
