Carbondale Police investigate dumpster fires

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - The City of Carbondale Police Department is investigating numerous dumpster fires, which have occurred in the 500 block of South University Avenue and in alleys between South Poplar Street and South Rawlings Street.

During the months of March and April approximately twenty fires have been investigated with the assistance of the City of Carbondale Fire Department.

Police say setting a fire in a dumpster is considered an act of Arson and Carbondale Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 to anyone who provides information leading to an arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for these crimes.

Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the police department at 457-3200 or Crime Stoppers at 549-COPS.
