Hundreds were without power Thursday morning in Cape Girardeau, and it's not because of the weather.
Ameren crews are on Old Sprigg near Bertling, putting up a new utility pole after police say a car hit a utility pole, knocking out power in hundreds of homes.
Police say the driver of the car swerved to miss a deer on the road, and crashed into the pole.
The driver of the car was not injured.
At 4 a.m., Ameren crews on the scene said power will be out for about three or four more hours for the 100 customers still affected.
As of 8:20 a.m., Ameren reported 16 customers in Cape Girardeau without power.
As of 1:25 p.m., Ameren did not report any outages in Cape Girardeau.
Power was out in many more homes on that side of town earlier this morning.
