SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) - A Sikeston man has been charged after police say he sold drugs to an off duty police officer.

According to the Sikeston Department of Public Safety, the off duty sergeant was on the 400 block of Fletcher street around 1:30 p.m. Monday afternoon.

The officer, who was in plain clothes, was approached by a man who said he was in the area mowing yards. During their conversation, the suspect allegedly asked the officer if he would be interested in purchasing vicodin.

Investigators said the officer agreed to purchase some. The off duty officer left and met with Sikeston's Narcotics Division to set up a sting.

The officer returned to complete the deal. 19-year-old Devante Clark of Sikeston was arrested and charged with Distribution of a Controlled Substance near Public Housing. That's a class A felony.

Clark, who's on probation for distribution, remains behind bars on a $5,000 cash only bond.
