STODDARD COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - Two men are behind bars in Stoddard County after assaulting a 62-year-old man, according to the Stoddard County Sheriff's Department.

Sheriff Carl Hefner said someone called 911 on Sunday just after 6 p.m. to report an assault on County Road 499.

When deputies got to the home, they said they found the victim covered in blood. The victim told investigators that two men came to his house and demanded he give them a boat that was in his yard.

The victim told a deputy that when he would not give the two men his boat, they knocked him to the ground and started beating him with their hands and feet.

According to the sheriff, the victim's son, who lives next door, saw the attack and came outside to help his father. The son told police the two suspects fought with him before running away.

One of the suspects was arrested in Butler County a short time later and the other turned himself into the Stoddard County Sheriff's Department.

Travis Brunelle, 18, of Fisk is charged with 2nd degree assault.

Kyle Gilmore, 20, of Fisk is also charged with 2nd degree assault.

Both Brunelle and Gilmore were taken to the Stoddard County Jail on $12,500 cash only bond.
