Deadly crash leads to Reckless Homicide charges

UNION COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - A grand jury indicts a Cobden man after a deadly crash on Interstate 57 back in March.

According to Union County State's Attorney Tyler Edmonds, a grand jury indicted 27-year-old Daniel Bible on charges of aggravated driving under the influence of drugs, reckless homicide, and endangering the life or health of a child.

Bible was arrested Friday in Marion. He's currently being held in the Jackson County Jail on 150-thousand dollars bond.

The crash happened on March 23. Police say Bible's Camaro rear-ended a stock trailer loaded with cattle on I-57.

James Smith, 56 of Anna was in the pick-up truck that was hauling that trailer and was killed in the crash.

In addition to the new charges filed this week, Bible was also written several tickets at the scene including driving on a suspended license and failing to put a 3 year old in a safety seat.
