$60,000 copper theft lands Paducah man in jail

The McCracken County Sheriffs Department says a domestic call lead them to the discovery of more than $60,000 in stolen copper wire.

Deputies were called to a home at 2942 Phillip Blvd Tuesday, April 12.  There, they say they found 38 year old Thomas Barrett violating a VPO and arrested him.

After the arrest, deputies say they discovered 150 pounds of copper wire in the bed of his pickup truck.  Investigators say Barrett works for Guy Gray Supply in Paducah and had been stealing for years.  They estimate Barrett has stolen 15,000 pounds of copper wire since 2008.

Barrett faces several charges tonight.  Investigators say they are looking into several other people to see if they may also be involved in the theft.
