Counselor accused of Medicaid fraud

CARUTHERSVILLE, MO (KFVS) - A professionally licensed counselor in Caruthersville faces four felony counts of Medicaid fraud.

Attorney General Chris Koster says 34-year-old Kristi Smith also faces one count of stealing by deceit.

Koster's office claims Smith submitted false claims to Medicaid for children's counseling services she did not perform, and forged signatures on those claims.

Smith could get seven years in prison for each alleged violation, plus other penalties.
