Deputies: Good Samaritan has car stolen on interstate

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - Late Sunday night the McCracken County Sheriff's Department responded to a report of a stolen vehicle on I-24 at Exit 11.

When deputies got to the scene they were told Sara Stephens, 25 of Benton, KY stopped to help what appeared to be a stranded driver. Stephens told deputies she was helping the stranded man push his car to the side of the road when he suddenly ran back to her car, a 2004 Ford Mustang, jumped in and sped off.

Another man, Christopher Bomar, 26, of Paducah was in a separate car exiting I-24 at the same place saw what happened. Bomar picked up Stephens in his car and followed the vehicle as it got onto I-24.

Bomar continued to follow the vehicle as deputies were dispatched to the area. The man in Stephens' car stopped on I-24 about a mile down the road. Deputies immediately detained the man in her car.

Deputies have identified the suspect as Ngoc Linh Xuan Luong, 24, of Springfield, Illinois.

According to deputies, Luong has a lengthy criminal history including disarming a peace officer and numerous traffic offenses. During the stop, deputies say Luong gave a false name and was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Luong was arrested for the theft of Stephens' car, operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol, operating on a suspended or revoked driver's license, no or expired registration plate and giving a false name and address.
