CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - A man is in the hospital, and police are searching for the person who allegedly assaulted him.
It's a bizarre story that unfolded just before 6:00p.m. Saturday
Cape Girardeau police got a call to an apartment building on the 600 block of Sycamore Circle.
They found an Illinois man in his early 20's with what appeared to be two gunshot wounds to the head.
After investigating, officers tell Heartland News it now appears the man in fact was beaten with a handgun.
The suspect is no where to be found.
Sgt. Rick Schmidt with the Cape Girardeau Police Department says officers are following all leads.
"We've done a neighborhood canvass to get additional leads," said Sgt. Schmidt. "We are interviewing people inside the apartment and collecting evidence."
Officers say the victim was conscious and alert, and actually walked to the ambulance.
Schmidt says the man was talking to the officer at his hospital bedside.
Police have not released the victim's name, or the name of the person officers are searching for.
