U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin says federal transportation officials have approved Cape Air's application to provide long-term service at the Quincy Regional Airport.
Durbin said Friday the 4-year contract may mean that Cape Air will move maintenance and other jobs to the area. The Hyannis, Mass.-based airline plans to open a new ticket office in downtown Quincy.
The airline received local support earlier this year when Quincy city officials voted unanimously to support Cape Air's proposal. Durbin also sent a letter of support to the U.S. Department of Transportation.
Cape Air provides service in the Quincy, Marion and Cape Girardeau regions.
