CALLOWAY COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - A moped driver was killed Thursday night after a crash on Highway 80 in Calloway County.
Paul W. Stewart, 42, of Murray, Ky. was killed when his Yamaha moped collided with a vehicle on Highway 80 West and Brinn Road intersection.
Joshua K. Cosby, 22 of Crayne, Ky. was driving a 2004 Ford pickup eastbound on Highway 80 West when Stewart tried to cross Highway 80 West going southbound on Brinn Road and did not yield to oncoming traffic, according to Kentucky State Police. It happened at 9:44 p.m.
Cosby was unable to react in time and hit Stewart throwing him into the median of Hwy. 80 West. Stewart's vehicle came to rest inside the lane.
Cosby's vehicle crossed the median going eastbound and overturned end over end.
Stewart was pronounced dead at the Murray-Calloway County ER by Calloway County Coroner Rick Harris. He was wearing a helmet, according to KSP.
A passenger in Cosby's vehicle was injured. Both Cosby and the passenger were wearing a seatbelt.
KSP, Calloway County Sheriff's Department, Murray-Calloway County EMS, and the Murray Fire Department responded to the crash.
