Japanese students raise $15,000 for disaster relief

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - Southern Illinois University has several Japanese students on campus and, understandably, they wanted to help after their country was devastated by an earthquake and tsunami.

The Japanese Student Association collected more than $15,000 in just over a week.  There are 23 students from Japan attending SIU and all reported that their families were safe after the disaster March 11.

Proceeds from the donation drive will go directly to the Japan Red Cross according to Sandra Webster, director of the American Red Cross' Little Egypt Service Center.
