FESTUS, MO (KFVS) - The family of a Missouri soldier killed in Afghanistan will soon be reunited with his dog.
Army Staff Sergeant James Ide, 32, was part of a unit that came under enemy fire in August 2010.
Ide left behind a wife and two children. He was a handler of bomb-sniffing dogs.
And one of those animals, Ddaphne, was with him when he died.
A spokesman at Fort Leonardwood says that after Ide's death, his family asked to adopt the dog, once her deployment was complete.
Ddaphne will be given to the family in Festus on Thursday.
