CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - Cape fire and rescue crews responded to the Mississippi River around 11 a.m. to a man onboard a barge who was having some type of medical emergency.
According to rescue crews choppy water due to the windy conditions made the rescue very challenging. The rescue boat was using more fuel than normal because it was headed into the wind to get to the man on that barge.
Crews made it onto to the barge and decided that it was in the best interest for the patient to have a tug boat take him ashore. Other medical personnel met the tug to transport the patient to a Cape Girardeau hospital.
Rescue crews finally made it back to their station at 7:45 p.m. Saturday evening after a challenging day on the Mississippi River.
