Balloon release helps remember Makayla Overy

A somber anniversary for a little girl hit and killed by a vehicle in front of her house.
Friday evening, family and friends of Makayla Overy remembered her with a special ceremony in Fruitland.

A crowd of family and friends released hundreds of yellow balloons in her honor.
Makayla is the 4-year-old girl who was hit and killed outside her home 6-months ago.

Makayla's mother said they released the balloons for her daughter as well as all the other children who have lost their lives.

"Yellow was her favorite color so we released yellow balloons so they could float up to heaven and she can have them along with all the other children who have lost their lives," said Kristen Overy.

The balloon release took place at 5:45 p.m. Friday.

Family members say that was about the time of day Makayla lost her life.
