WEST FRANKFORT, IL (KFVS) - A local group hosted a unique job fair on March 30 that featured employers who do not require a college degree.
The job fair targeted high school juniors and seniors who do not plan on attending college. Organizers said that it's important for these students to know there is opportunities for them in southern Ill.
"A lot of our kids grow up hearing that there are no jobs here in southern Illinois and that your going to have to move away and go to college and a lot of our best and brightest leave," John Shadowens, Prevention Manager at The H Group, said. "We thought it was time to let some kids know that there are great sustainable wage paying jobs right here in Southern Illinois."
About 200 students across the county attended the job fair.
It's the second year the partnership for youth has hosted the event. Organizers say they hope to have another one next year.
