POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) -

Police arrested a Doniphan man and charged him with assault after an altercation with a 68-year-old man who was found dead Tuesday around 12:40 a.m. behind a local hotel.

Benjamin Redden of Doniphan faces an assault charge for a fight with 68-year-old Roger Easley.

Police say Easley was found dead Tuesday around 12:40 a.m. behind a local hotel on North Westwood Blvd.

According to Detective Sutton, Easley was assaulted by Redden earlier in the evening.

Butler County Coroner Jim Akers says that 68-year-old Roger Easley likely died of a heart condition, brought on by an altercation with Benjamin Redden.

Detective David Sutton says Redden assaulted Easley, but the coroner still cannot confirm a motive.

The coroner says investigators do consider the manner of Easley's death a homicide, although that doesn't necessarily mean Easley's death is a crime.

Police say Redden called his girlfriend for help and they tried to revive Easley with CPR but was unsuccessful.  When Redden realized he couldn't revive the man, he fled the scene, said Sutton.

Akers isn't able to get in touch with any of the victim's family members.

Akers asks if you or someone you know is acquainted with the family of 68-year-old Roger Easley, please call him at the Butler County Sheriff's Office at 573-686-7884.
