PERRYVILLE, MO (KFVS) - The Perry County Task force sponsored the event and their message was don't drink and drive or text and drive.
The Junior and Seniors from Saxony Lutheran High School, Perryville High School, and St. Vincent had a full afternoon of speakers and presentations.
The event that stood out the most was a docudrama of a drunk driving accident. Students watched in shock as emergency crews tried to save their classmates lives. The students say this was a huge eye opener.
"It makes we want to text my family and tell them to wear their seatbelts," said senior Shelby Mattingly. "It is really upsetting to see all of this."
"Having your friends act it out it shows you really what could happen," said senior Travis Koenig.
"It makes me not even want to have my phone around me when I'm in the car," said Senior Abby Hartmann.
This event is strategically placed before prom and graduation in hopes of steering the students down the right path in making good choices.
Organizers say in the past ten years teen drunk driving accidents have dropped in the area and they owe part of that drop to events like today's.
