Watchful neighbor leads to burglary arrest

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) -

An observant neighbor calls police, which leads to a burglary arrest in McCracken County.

Police arrested Donald Langrath, 61, of Paducah and charged him with burglary 1st degree, a Class B felony and theft by unlawful taking of a firearm, a Class D felony.

Also Langrath was charged with theft of a controlled substance under $300 1st offense, a Class D felony.

It all started when police say they received a disturbance call to an apartment in the 2300 block of Hovekamp Rd. on March 30, 2011.

The caller heard what sounded like someone who was injured outside her apartment, that's when she noticed the front door of her neighbor's apartment was open and saw Landreth go into the apartment, according to Sgt. Kevin Lynn with the McCracken Co. Sheriff's Office.

Investigators found later that Langreth's apartment keys would open his neighbors apartment.

Deputies say when they arrived, Landreth was outside the apartment and extremely intoxicated.

Alcohol intoxication in a public place carries a $250 fine, according to Lynn.

Landreth was in possession of a Glock 22, 40 caliber pistol that was stolen from the victim's apartment, according to police.

Further investigation led to a search warrant for Landreth's apartment where deputies found a bottle of Xanax belonging to his neighbor.

Landreth was then arrested and taken to the McCracken County Jail.
