Parents: Most students home, okay from school bus crash

JEFFERSON COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - There were some tense moments on a New Madrid County R-1 school bus on Saturday.

According to New Madrid County Sheriff Terry Stevens, a bus from New Madrid County Schools was involved in a crash on I-55 in the Festus area around 3:00 p.m. Saturday.

The bus was carrying the Junior ROTC group to an event in the St. Louis area.

Most of the kids are now home and did not suffer from serious injuries, according to parents.

Everyone on board was transported to an area hospital, and all but one student was released.

There is no word on that students condition.

There is no word yet on what caused the crash, although according to officers in the Jefferson County area, crews worked a number of crashes Saturday in that area as snow and sleet made for very slippery conditions.

The Junior ROTC group was on their way back home when the crash happened.
