CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - A local soldier returns home to her husband and children after serving many months in Iraq.

It all began Thursday afternoon when Captain Dawna Allen got off of an airplane at the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport. Her final destination: Sikeston, her hometown.

When Captain Dawna Allen walked into the airport she was first greeted by her husband Marc Allen who is beyond ready for his wife to be home for good. "I just want us to be a family again," said Marc Allen.

Captain Allen has served with the U.S. Army Reserves for 23 years.

She was deployed to Iraq last May, and has only been home for two weeks since then. She worked in public relations, and helped other soldiers schedule their R&R.

After the happy couple's reunion in Cape Girardeau they headed to Sikeston to pick up two of their children at school.

Sixth grader Jeland, and first grader Karris were so happy to see mom.

They also have an 18-year-old son.

They are all looking forward to some quality time this weekend.

"I want to be with my family", said Captain Allen.

Marc Allen said, "I just wanted her to make it back to us safe, just want the world to know how proud I am of her."
