DEXTER, MO (KFVS) - The Show-Me state has a brand new Mrs. Missouri and she is from right here in the Heartland.
Rachel Watson grew up in Malden, MO and now lives in Dexter. Next week she's headed to the Mrs. America pageant.
Rachel says this isn't just any beauty pageant, this is the Mrs. pageant. Therefore all contestants will be representing married women from all over the nation.
Rachel says while beauty is a factor in the evening and swimsuit part of the competition, 50 percent of the competition is based on interviews. So, you have to have the brains to win.
Rachel says while her title is only temporary she hopes her message lasts forever.
"What I saw myself doing was being an influence and try to be a role model and that's the entire reason that I wanted this title," said Watson. "Your voice is louder when you have a crown and people want to hear what you have to say and the amount of your that you're able to influence is so much greater as Mrs. Missouri, than it ever was as just Rachel from Dexter."
Rachel also holds the title of mother and says her son helps keep her grounded.
She says that she couldn't have made it this far without the financial sponsorship and prayers of her community.
Mrs. America will be held on April 14th and you can look for it to air on Mother's Day.
