BULLARD, TX (KLTV) - A Smith County deputy is in critical condition after being attacked by a cow struck by a car early Thursday morning.
According to authorities, 54-year-old deputy Robert Britton was helping direct traffic around an injured cow on FM 344 near highway 155 when the animal charged him, knocking the deputy in the air.
The cow continued to attack Britton until other deputies rescued him.
Deputy Britton was transported to a Tyler hospital with life threatening injuries to his head and neck.
Britton is currently in ICU in critical condition. The cow has been put down.
Authorities are now searching for the owner of the cow.
